The Secrets of Lisbon’s Historic Neighbourhoods

30.00

Our favourite views of the city, street art in Alfama and Bairro Alto, colourful streets in Baixa-Chiado and Principe Real and recommendations to local cafes and restaurants – that pretty much sums up this discovery game! While you solve 15 cryptic clues you’ll see the city in a way you have never looked at it before.

This urban discovery adventure is played through our web app. All you need to do is open the link you receive after purchase (check your spam/promotions folder!) in your smartphone’s browser (data needed). The cryptic level of the clues is medium. This route covers approximately 4,5km and typically takes 3-5 hours to complete, but there’s no time limit, so enjoy your discoveries along the way.

The price for the trail is 30.00 euros per team. We recommended playing with 1-5 people per team.

You can play one trail per user at a time. You can share your unique link with your teammates so everyone can see the clues. Only one player (the team captain!) should be submitting the answers. If you run out of battery, someone else on the team can continue submitting the answers using the same link.

Short on time? Play the first half of this trail to discover Alfama and Baixa-Chiado, or the second half to explore Baixa Chiado, Bairro Alto and Principe Real.

Description

How Does It Work?

  • Start location & playing times: The Secrets of Lisbon’s Alfama and Baixa starts at the miradouro de Santa Luzia in front of the fish fountain. The trail can be played all days of the week, starting between 10:00 – 16:00. Starting any later than 16:00 may result in certain locations, where you have to enter to find your answer, being closed.
  • Playing the game: To start playing open the link, that you received upon purchase, in your phone’s browser. Then, simply press the Start button to start solving the first clue. As soon as you hit Start, the clock starts ticking.
  • Solving the riddles: Solve the 15 clues by typing the answers in the text box and tap the tick button to submit your answer. Most answers are made up of one word only or a number – there are a few exceptions.
  • Hints: If you need a little help, ask for a hint. Hints will get you nearer to the location where you can find the answer to your clue. Note there’s only one hint per clue. Each hint you ask for will add 10mins ‘penalty time’ to your overall time.
  • Skipping riddles: In case you’d like to skip a clue/riddle without solving it and want to receive the next one, press ‘Skip this clue’. We recommend asking for a hint before you skip a clue to make sure you are near the right spot to continue from. Skipping a clue adds 20mins ‘penalty time’ to your overall time.
  • End location: The route ends near the gardens of Principe Real.

And just so you know,

  • You (the team captain) can always close and reopen your unique link in your phone’s browser – and you can continue playing where you left off until one week after starting the game.
  • While most teams take between 3-5 hours to play this trail around Lisbon there is no time limit on completing this route, so take your time and enjoy your discoveries.
  • This route includes two breaks near lovely cafes (both with a view!), we don’t take any commission for recommending these places, we just believe they add something to the experience (and we might even meet each other there as we frequently spend an afternoon at these spots!).
